For some reason, one my most vivid V-Day memories was when I was in
8th grade. My mom brought home a heart-shaped cake with white frosting...and it meant the world to me. Kids are so easy to please.
I have a few red velvet cake memories I could share, but I decided to create a new one today. I baked one up for the holiday. I'm a huge fan of everything Amy's Bread and I bake from that book all the time, but I decided to go with Sylvia Wood's recipe. The cream-cheese based frosting is made with chopped pecans. It's out of this world.
My kids made Chocolate Corn Muffins with red sprinkles on it for me for Valentine's Day. Tasted gross but it's the tought that counts right?
Justin - I saw your cake and it looked awesome!! Thanks for sharing!
Smart Cookie - what a great memory, such a sweet story. I promise when I have kids to bake them heart-shaped cakes with whie frosting!
Carrie - it is totally the thought that counts! I made my folks suffer through burnt toast and runny eggs (and I charged them for it nonetheless - it was my restaurant in our living room - at age 5). At least your got your present for free! :) LOL
Hey, I just discovered your blog through Twitter and retweeted about your contest. Great stuff! And this cookbook looks like a keeper!
Hope you had a good Valentine's Day.

Oops, forgot my favorite memory! I'm not particularly fond of Valentine's Day, but this year was a nice one. My boyfriend's parents (and the family dog) came to the apartment to visit for dinner and dessert. Simple but relaxing...and then we played video games all night. :)
Two years ago, I went to pick my husband up from work and when he came out of the shop, he was holding a boquet of 18 long-stemmed roses with a cute little stuffed dog. I'm not big on V-Day so it was special and a complete surprise!!
My favorite V_Day moment had to be this past one. We spent the day cooking and baking for each other.
She made the Velvet cake, and I cooked up the steaks, and grilled shrimp.
BTW I just added you to my reader, keep up the blogging!

First, this book is awesome. I'm just racking up overdue fines from the library. I almost returned it today but am hanging onto it longer! Fun memory: Hubby & I took our now 12 year old out for a Valentine's dinner 6-7 years ago and gave him a red hot wheels car. He still has it.
Alexandra - Thank you so much for the shout out! I signed up for your feed too : )
Scrap It Up - That's so great! It's always the unexpected wonderful moments in life that are the best. I'm generally not such a V-day person myself, but for some reason this year I felt the need to make it special this year. Hey, if our 401K's are all but gone, at least we have red velvet cake and roses, right! LOL.
Corey / 2 Equal Parts - so you had the velvet too! Awesome! Thanks so much for adding me to your reader. I'll try and keep up my end of the bargain ; )
mcogdill - That's so cool that you already love this book. It's one of my favorites! Have you tried the sticky buns yet? If not, you definitely should. I love the ones made in the muffin pan (she offers 2 variations). Loved your red hot wheels story!
